The Editor's Blog: Nashua Telegraph Blogs

Editing often takes the form of the editor using their "red pen" to make a story shorter, to fit the space allocated. Their job is to leave the most important part, while cutting away the chaff.

While I will defend to my death the right for all to be heard in an Editorial page, I think that the letter in question could have received the proverbial "red pen" after the first couple of sentences, which would have left the main point of the author intact, and left more room for other people's letters in the paper.

From my viewpoint, if the writer wants to have the offending text printed, they can take out an advertisement in the paper, and pay for the space.
